- At the start of the year, Health NZ reduced the number of ICU beds at Christchurch Hospital by 1/3, bringing it down to 24. As a result, patients awaiting lifesaving operations have now been delayed up to 7 times Wellington cancer patients are experiencing the same delays due to bed shortages.
- It comes as 6000 senior doctors and dentists go on strike until midnight Wednesday and Simeon Brown continues to criticise and gaslight our health professionals.
- As reported this week, sick Kiwis are now dying in hospital corridors and carparks due to the sustained attack on our public health system with freezing hires, budget cuts, and diverting money to private healthcare
- Simeon Brown is also funding private equity telehealth company casual visits up to ~4.5 times ($65/appt) more than community GPs. These same private companies are then charging Kiwis $80-100 for a call. This is going to make family and community GP retention harder at a time the system is already on the brink.
- And despite Simeon Brown’s continual lies, Luxon has admitted that the $100 million announced by Simeon Brown this week is only enough for basic infrastructure maintenance
