Space Minister Judith Collins has been in the United States, ostensibly to build closer ties to America’s Trump Administration.
She’s posted a series of shots on X, reinforcing a commitment to “shared intelligence” and alliance.
1News reports that Collins / NZ was praised by US officials for upping our military spend to $12bn, presumably, as requested by the Trump Administration
Trump is on record as wanting other countries to pull more of their weight in military spending and wanting a certain level of GDP contribution. In response National announced we had found $12 billion in April - $9 billion of that new money.
Collins told NZ media outside that she talked up the sale of NZ’s military capabilities to Department of War officials:
“We have lots of businesses – and growing – in the technology and defence industry area that want to be able to get access into the US markets”
