Personal Note: On Division
I was reading about some Nazi led protests in Australia from yesterday and came across an interesting stat:
Only 56% of Kiwis think accepting immigrants from different countries makes New Zealand stronger, compared to 82% of Australians. Only 50% believe immigrants improve society, compared to 82% in Australia.
i.e. Australians on the whole embrace and see immigration as positive and see the significant benefits
Whereas Kiwis, who are already feeling a lot of pressure and stress from cost of living, close up, and often see it as negative. We see this mood captured by populist politicians for e.g. NZ First’s Shane Jones said his party intends to run on a fundamentally anti-immigration policy for the next election, and Brian Tamaki is not only in Auckland, but expanded to Brisbane Australia as well (the grift never ends).
