Over the weekend, I saw a flurry of posts upset about Turning Point popping up in New Zealand.
For those of you who don’t know, Turning Point is the ultra orthodox conservative foundation founded by Charlie Kirk and Bill Montgomery in 2012.
Charlie Kirk gained notoriety in New Zealand after his unfortunate assassination. Right wing influencers here such as David Farrar and Jordan Williams, politicians e.g. Joseph Mooney, David Seymour, Simeon Brown, Andrew Tripe, and media outlets all fanned publicity and sympathy towards Kirk, lionising him after his death.
The news of a Turning Point in New Zealand however, didn’t enrage, or surprise me.
Instead, it’s an almost inevitable progression of increasing extremism in New Zealand fanned by a current alt-right government sympathetic to the same causes that Charlie Kirk worked for.

As in the USA, Kirk is a symbol of it, and the fanning of him as a right wing hero is as strategic as much as it is sentimental.

The parties who started Turning Point NZ appear to include Brendan McNeill, Henoch Kloosterboer, and Deanna Kloosterboer.
